Mr. Samuel Dean “Sam” Smith, age 58, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. The family will host a memorial service at a later date officiated by Pastor Allen Usher, and friends may call anytime at the home, 218 Jimilyn Road, Cheraw, SC.

Mr. Smith was born November 21, 1961 in Bennettsville, SC a son of the late Freddy and Shirley Briggman Smith. Sam was a kind and thoughtful man with a heart of gold. He was a proud father and grandfather who loved spending time with his son fishing or watching a ballgame, and especially “showing off” his 3 beautiful grandchildren. He was always smiling and never met a stranger. All who knew him loved him.

In addition to his parents, Sam was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Robin Dowdy and Randy Wallace.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Smith of the home; son, Tyler (Shamyra) Smith of Fort Drum, NY; grandchildren, Chloe Smith, Bentley Smith, and Lincoln Smith; siblings, Donna Wallace, Chuck Smith both of Bennettsville, SC, Becky (Walter) Arnette of Dillon, SC, Dee (Ted) Rodgers of Rockingham, NC, Mike Smith of Cheraw, SC, and Ellen (Paul) Connolly of Darlington, SC; aunt, Kathy Baker of Laurinburg, NC; uncles, Sonny Briggman, Bill (Sheila) Briggman both of Orangeburg, SC, and Wesley (Kay) Briggman of Stockton, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
