Mr. Robert Donald "Donnie" Goodale, age 71, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.  Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Shiloh United Methodist Church by Pastor Fred McDaniel and Rev. David Smith with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service in the fellowship hall of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Mr. Goodale was born February 23, 1947 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Charles “Charlie” and Irene Gainey Goodale. He grew up on the family farm in Chesterfield and at age 13 began his career in radio broadcasting as a disc jockey working part-time. Upon graduating Chesterfield High School, Donnie attended Elkins Institute of Electrical Engineers in Atlanta to obtain a radio engineer’s license. Mr. Goodale began working with the Suburban Radio Group and later moved to Lenoir, NC. In 1971, Donnie accepted the job as general manager of WJRI radio station and became the owner in 1992 of the small independent radio station.

Always devoted to community service, Mr. Goodale served two four-year terms as a county commissioner of Caldwell County, and one term on the District Soil and Water Conservation Board. He was a member of both the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press Broadcasters of NC. In addition to these, Donnie also held membership on several non-profit Boards in Caldwell County.

A life-long member of Shiloh United Methodist Church of Chesterfield, SC, Donnie was a true sports enthusiast. He was an avid golfer and a die-hard SC Gamecocks fan. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he enjoyed spending time at the beach.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was also preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Craig Goodale; granddaughter, Cassa Messick; and sisters, Peggy Morrow and Catherine Davis.

Survivors include his beloved wife of over 50 years, Sue H. Goodale of the home; daughter, Charlotte Goodale Evans and husband, Adam of King, NC; granddaughter, Chelsey Taylor Evans of Winston Salem, NC; brothers, Jerry Goodale and wife, Gail of Cheraw, SC, Thomas Goodale, W.M. Goodale and wife, Miriam both of Chesterfield, SC; sister, Elizabeth Goodale of Richmond, VA; also numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful and loving pet who was ALWAYS by his side, “Remy.”
