Mr. Leslie Jerome “Rome” Byrd, age 73, entered into rest on Monday, May 16, 2022. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 20, 2022 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Jeff Williams and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son Ricky, 1607 Patrick Firetower Road, Patrick, SC.
Mr. Byrd was born October 12, 1948 in Darlington County, SC a son of the late Charlie R. and Sadie M. Byrd. Rome worked his entire career in construction and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and keeping up with the news.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Byrd was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Sara Teal Byrd Webb; and brothers, Robert Byrd, Gene Byrd, Carl Byrd, Hugh Byrd, and Bill Byrd.
Survivors include his sons, Ricky (Nicky) Byrd of Patrick, SC, and Sambo (Tera) Byrd of Mt. Croghan, SC; daughter, Amy (James) Bell of Patrick, SC; grandchildren, Richie (Morgan) Byrd, Robbie (Kaitlyn) Byrd, Brent (Megan) Bell, Harley Byrd, Samantha Byrd, Cayden Pacheco, Michelle (Tyler) Joplin, and Brandon Buie; great grandchildren, Abby Byrd, John Byrd, Sadie Bell, and Ella Bell; brothers, Randy Byrd, Charles Byrd, Dennis (Gertrude) Byrd, and Richard Byrd; sisters, Lib (Jessie) Tyner, Teresa (Mack) O’Neal, and Kathy Byrd; sister-in-law, Janie Byrd Rivers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Palmetto Ridge for the love and care they have shown to Mr. Byrd and his family over the past 8 years.
