Mrs. Joyce Carolyn Wood Carter, 71, resident of Patrick, S.C., died July 20, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Carter was born October 26, 1947 in Davidson County, N.C., a daughter to the late Colon V. and Wilma Mae Shaw Wood.  She worked in the textile industry while living in North Carolina and later, in 1995, moved to Chesterfield County, SC.  While living there she was a member of Southern Grace Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet Elliott (Britt Johnson) of High Point and Linda Moore of Fairfax, VA; a sister, Jane Hill of Dacula, GA; a brother, Jeff Wood of Birmingham, AL; three sisters-in-law, Judy Wood of Piedmont, SC, Barbara Dixon (Grover) of Patrick, SC and Novella Carter of Seagrove, NC; four brothers-in-law, Cecil Carter (Dorothy) of Asheboro, NC, Freddie Carter (Linda) of Patrick, SC, Carlos Carter (Willie Mae) of Patrick, SC and Jack Carter (Nancy) of Trinity, NC; a great aunt, Libby Shaw Hall (Ronnie) of Denton; and her former sister-in-law, Marvene Surratt (Jerry) of Denton.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Benjamin Carter; a brother, John Edward Wood; a sister-in-law, Edith Brown; and two brothers-in-law, John Perry “Buck” Carter and Carson Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, NC with Rev. Bobby Morton officiating.  Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville, NC.  Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may made to Southern Grace Church, P.O. Box 573, Cheraw, SC.
