Joseph E. Gainey

Mr. Joseph Enlow Gainey, age 87, entered into rest on Monday, May 23, 2022. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Curtis Laney and Brent Taylor. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of Wylie & Bonnie Gainey.

Mr. Gainey was born February 16, 1935 in Jefferson, SC a son of the late Jessie and Mattie Moree Gainey. He was a retired employee of Springs Industries with over 40 years of service and a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years. An avid outdoorsman, Joseph enjoyed working outdoors in his yard.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gainey was also preceded in death by beloved wife of 65 years, Bernice Crowley Gainey; brothers, J.T. Gainey and wife, Marcine, Charles W. Gainey and wife, Betty; sisters, Edna Belk and husband, Floyd, Verdie “Bert” Faile, Edel Gainey, Margaret Chandler, and Elma “Peggy” Plyler.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Gainey of the home; siblings, Wylie (Bonnie) Gainey of Jefferson, SC, Katherine (Robert) Horne of Heath Springs, SC, Ann Robertson of Lancaster, SC, Jane (Richard) Wrenn of Indian Land, SC, and Margie Baker of Florence, SC.
