Betty Lou Tenney, 90, formerly from Duck, WV, passed away May 18, 2020, peacefully in her sleep after a long illness. She was born November 22, 1929 in Widen, WV. Preceding her in death was her husband, Olan D. Tenney, their son, Danny Jo Tenney, her parents, Richard Shelton and Ethel Zirkle Shelton, one brother, Sam Shelton, and one sister, Ruth Butcher.

Betty Lou was a loving wife, mother, aunt, friend, and neighbor. She was a proud Christian and loved sharing about how “Good her God is”. She always had a bright smile on her face and a laugh that was one of a kind. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a retired supervising accountant at Communication Workers of America, in Alexandria, VA. She also loved being a familiar face at any and all Widen Alumni Association events. She loved Jesus, coffee, and the Washington Redskins. She will be missed by so many and her impact on others will be carried on and remembered for years and generations to come.
Betty Lou is survived by a sister-in-law, Irene Craft-Shelton, her nephews and nieces, Cecil L. (Darlene)Butcher II and Sally Ann Butcher Legg, both from Clay and Mike Stedham, from Summerville, and Dale Lane of Charleston. Cousins, Jo Bauman, from South Charleston, and Carla Leeson of El Paso, TX. Also survived by Betty Lou are her great-nephew JB (Brittany) Butcher, of Summersville, and her great nieces, Cortney Legg of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Legg-Graves, of Monroe, NC, and Brandi Butcher, of Clay. She also has two great-great nephews, Aidan Crawn and Brock Butcher and two great-great nieces, Isabella Graves and Brooke Butcher.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, May 22, 2020 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV with Pastor Joe Dawson officiating. Private burial will follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Strange Creek, WV. Friends and family may call 1-2 pm at the funeral home.
