Mr. Wendell Perdue, age 76, of Patrick, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on the evening of February 28, 2026, at the Veteran Village of Florence, South Carolina. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Patrick Cemetery, officiated by Frankie Joyner and Brent Taylor, with his daughter, Brandy, delivering the eulogy.


The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the home of Wendell Perdue and following the service at the cemetery.


Born on December 11, 1949, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Mr. Perdue was the son of the late Floyd Sandy Perdue and Marian Jane Griggs Perdue. He was a graduate of Cheraw High School and furthered his education at Florence-Darlington Technical College and Francis Marion University. Wendell proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. A lifetime member of the VFW, he also enjoyed attending both Patrick Presbyterian Church and Patrick Baptist Church. His professional career included 40 years of dedicated service as a supervisor at Sonoco Products, along with owning and operating Wendell Perdue Auto Sales.


Wendell was deeply committed to his community and the Town of Patrick. He actively sought to improve the lives of those around him and served in numerous local capacities, including membership on the Patrick Town Council, the Patrick Pinestraw Committee, the Patrick Planning Committee, and both the Patrick Rescue Squad and Patrick Fire Department. He proudly held the position of Mayor of the Town of Patrick for two terms. His commitment to public service was recognized in 2013 when he was acknowledged for over 25 years of dedicated service to the community. Moreover, from 2013 to 2021, he served on the Chesterfield County Transportation Committee, appointed by Senator Vincent Sheheen. In honor of his contributions, the Town of Patrick named a road adjacent to Town Hall, Wendell Perdue Street.


An avid automotive enthusiast, Wendell enjoyed following racing and participated in building race cars and go-carts in his earlier years. He also had a passion for keeping up with current events, often reading multiple newspapers daily.


In addition to his parents, Mr. Perdue was preceded in death by his son, Shad Wendell Perdue; brothers, Robert Perdue and Doug “Mel” Perdue; and niece, Robin Webb Williams.


He is survived by the love of his life for the past 30 years, Hazel Sox of Hartsville, SC; children, Brandy Perdue (Greg) Clemmer of Matthews, NC, and Bill (Crystal) Perdue of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Gregory Wendell “G.W.” Clemmer, Gracie Clemmer, and Braxton Perdue; niece, Alicia Perdue (Ronnie Dew) of Patrick, SC; nephew, Robbie (Christy) Perdue of Whiteville, NC; and his cherished four-legged companion, “Blackie.”


The family expresses their gratitude to all who provided support during this journey, especially his family physician, Dr. Chapman of Hartsville, and the staff and administration of The Legacy of Hartsville, hospice nurse Jordan, and the teams from Crescent Hospice, McLeod Hospice House, Veteran Village, and Patriot Hospice and Palliative Care for their exceptional care and support.
