Wanda Oakley Rivers

Chesterfield, SC

          Mrs. Wanda Lee Oakley Rivers, age 73, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. A Celebration of Life service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Hopewell Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at the church.

          Mrs. Rivers was born November 7, 1950 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel Stanton Oakley. She dedicated over twenty years of her life to serving the Chesterfield community as a social worker with the Department of Social Services. Mrs. Rivers was a beloved member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she demonstrated her unwavering faith by serving many years as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. Her profound love for her church family, especially the women of Hopewell, was evident in her close relationships with them.

Known for her selflessness, Wanda generously devoted her time to volunteering for the Connie Maxwell Children's Home and Chesterfield Athletics, always prioritizing the needs of others above her own. However, it was in her role as a grandmother that Wanda truly excelled, leaving a lasting impact on her cherished grandchildren.

          In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rivers was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred “Olin” Rivers; siblings, Charles Oakley, Molly Oakley, and Perry Oakley.

          Survivors include her children, Israel (Tammy Cauly) Rivers of Columbia, SC, Douglas (Erin) Rivers of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Grace Rivers, Declan Rivers; siblings, Peggy (Mike) Rivers of Chesterfield, SC, Robert (Bobby) Oakley of Chesterfield, SC, Tony (Melinda) Oakley of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, the women of Hopewell Baptist Church.
