Virginia Peeler Swindell, 100, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
She was born May 12, 1923 in Greensboro, NC to the late Charles Lewis Peeler and Clara Agner Peeler. She attended Salisbury City and Rowan County Schools, graduating from Rockwell High School. Because of her lifelong love for learning she also took continuing education classes through the local community college and Rufty Homes .She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church where she was active in various church activities before she was unable to attend. She was also a prior 4-H Leader.
Mrs. Swindell was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Ruby Poole (Carr) and Betty Rose Setzer (Jake), a grandson, Mark Sellers and her husband of 64 years, Hilton J. Swindell.
Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Mona (Tommy) Sellers of Chesterfield, SC, Debra (Tom) Dryman of Salisbury, NC, Crystal (Paul) Canup of Salisbury, NC; her eight grandchildren, Julie (Jon) Baker, Devin (Lauren) Dryman, Deanna Dryman, Dacia Williams, Kelsey (Andrew) Busche, Joshua (Danielle) Canup, Sarah (Greg) Hicks and Elijah (Hailey) Canup. She is also survived by her twelve great-grandchildren, Evan and Olivia Baker, Alexander Dryman, Owen Williams, Olson and Bennett Busche, Hila, Clara, Lela, Nora and Julia Canup and Finnick Hicks. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Providence United Methodist Church from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Providence United Methodist Church, Salisbury, NC, with Pastor Barry Queen officiating.
Burial will take place in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
