Vernitta S. Burr

Chesterfield, SC - Mrs. Vernitta S. Burr, age 72, peacefully passed away on Thursday morning, July 24, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving son, Justin, and her cherished dog, Abby. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Cross Roads Baptist Church by Pastor Max White. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church family life center.

Mrs. Burr was born March 1, 1953 in Bennettsville, SC a daughter of the late Bobby and Irene Sellers Smith. She was a retired employee of Chesterfield Manufacturing with 28 years of service and following her retirement she cherished her memories and friends made while working at Chesterfield Feed & Seed for over 17 years. She was a former member of Friendship United Methodist Church and most recently had proudly joined Cross Roads Baptist Church. Vernitta enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and anything that involved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Rayford L. “Buddy” Burr; and an infant son, Bobby Ray Burr.

Survivors include her son, Justin Lee Burr of Chesterfield, SC; sister, Janet Smith Webster of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and her beloved 4-legged companion, “Abby.”

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of CenterWell Home Health and Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their compassionate care provided to Mrs. Burr and the family during this time.
