Tammy Phillips Gathings

Wadesboro, NC

     Mrs. Tammy Phillips Gathings, affectionately known as “Mama” and “Granny”, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at the age of 59. A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Deep Creek Baptist Church, 1280 Beck Rd. Wadesboro, NC 28170, by Maresa Dutton Phillips, Melissa Davis, and Lucas Gathings. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.

     Mrs. Gathings was born December 22, 1965 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of Glenn Phillips and the late Katherine Carpenter. Tammy was a graduate of Appalachian State prior to receiving her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Following graduation, Tammy was a teacher in North Carolina for 35 years and in South Carolina for 5 years. Tammy enjoyed the little pleasures in life such as a cup of coffee, a long walk, or working in her flowers. Tammy was an animal lover who cared for a number of pets though her favorites were her dogs, Reagan and Muffy. Above all else Tammy loved her family. She always wanted to make her loved ones feel special and loved. She had a gift for making others feel loved and celebrated, often going the extra mile to make birthdays and other moments truly special. Tammy’s favorite activity was spending time with her granddaughter, Georgia. Tammy had an unshakable faith, always believing that God is in control, and knowing that her eternal home is in the presence of Jesus.

     In addition to her mother, Mrs. Gathings was also preceded in death by her aunt, Helen Galliher; and father-in-law, James K. Gathings, Sr.

     Survivors include her husband and the love of her life for more than 35 years, Jamie Gathings of the home; children, Lucas (Olivia) Gathings of Wadesboro, NC, Mallory Gathings of Wadesboro, NC; granddaughter, Georgia Gathings; father, Glenn Phillips, sister, Dana Chandler of Southern Pines, NC; Cousins, Lisa Anastas of Ansonville, NC, and Dennis Galliher of Wadesboro, NC; mother-in-law, Barbara Gathings of Wadesboro, NC; sister-in-law, Melissa (Corey) Davis of Wadesboro, NC; and niece, Sydney (Alex) Shelton of Wadesboro, NC.
