Darlington, South Carolina
Skip was born on December 27th, 1939 in Annapolis, Maryland to the late Charles Milton Brown, II and Dorothy Flohr Brown. He was raised by his mother in Annapolis. With a great work ethic, he became an outstanding athlete at Annapolis High School where he lettered in four sports: Football, Basketball, Track & Field, and Baseball.
He earned a scholarship to then Western Maryland College where he continued to work hard on and off the field exceling in his academics. After graduation Skip followed a coach to review a high school in Sarasota, Florida, where he himself started his coaching career and started a family.
He moved back to Maryland to begin a lifelong career at Anne Arundel Community College, where he was a faculty member, and was the Division chair of The Physical Education Department and Baseball Coach. His career as a coach led to numerous awards and mentoring to so many student athletes and other coaches from around the County. Skip was recognized by the AACC as the baseball field bears his name.
After his retirement in 1998, Skip moved to SC to be closer to family and his favorite vacation spot Disney World. Where he and his wife Nita would take numerous trips a year. He was a member of The Darlington Country Club and loved to walk the course when he could. He finally recorded a Hole-In-One on #11 in 2006 and added another on #9 in 2009. He was an avid collector of anything with the #7, based on his childhood idol Mickey Mantle and The New York Yankees. He enjoyed daily trips to Barnes and Noble and weekly trips to Greg Norman’s Grille in North Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by his wife Juanita “Nita” Brown, daughter Terry Brown Bryson, sons: Mike Brown and Barry Brown, his sister Barbara (John) Lorenz, stepsons Sean Connelly and Jeffery Connelly. As well as his grandchildren: Kelly (Will Mungo) Brown, Courtney Brown, Brady Brown, and Breanna Brown, two great grandchildren, and 7 step-grandchildren. Along with many other extended family members.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. Brown, II, Dorothy Flohr Brown, and his brother Ken Brown.
Gifts can be made to the AACC Foundation, Henry “Hank” Libby Building, 101 College Parkway, Arnold, MD 21012, in Skip Brown’s memory to support the baseball field and program.
