Mrs. Shirley Watson Johnson, age74, went home to be with the Lord on her birthday, Mother’s Day, and her favorite day of the week, Sunday May 11, 2025 at exactly church time while a resident at Springhill Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Family Life Center by Reverend Don Rhyne with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service in the family life center of the church.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 11, 1951 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Jack Watson and Gulah Wilkerson Huggins. She was a retired employee of Chesterfield County School District as a teacher’s aide with over 22 years of service. A faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Shirley served as a former Sunday school teacher, WMU Director, VBS Director, and a dedicated nursery worker for many years. She was faithful to read and study God’s word. Shirley enjoyed cooking and was known for her baking skills. She loved her family dearly and was a proud “Nana” to her grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as a lady who loved the Lord, her family, and helping others.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald D. “Ronnie” Johnson; brothers, Wayne Watson, Dean Watson; and sister, Janice Helms.

Survivors include her children, Lora (Jerry) Smith of Mooresville, NC, Ronna (Kelly) Knight of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Hunter Nabors, Carsyn (Jake) Beaudin, Rachel (David) Swan, Isaac Smith, Gabe Smith, and Anna Smith; great grandchildren, William Beaudin, Levi Swan, and soon to be arriving, Lydia Swan; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Shirley’s close friends Lynn Nicholson, Brenda Clark, and Jean Kirkley, as well as the exceptional staff at Springhill Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their compassionate care and support.
