A faith filled soul devoted to serving God, his family, his friends and his many ‘adopted’ kids. His motto in life was ‘Serve God by serving others, Love God by loving others’. Buck loved to tell a story and have everyone laughing. He never met a stranger, always leaving each soul a little better than he found them. He wanted everyone to feel his love. He made a mark on the hearts of so many. But more importantly, they made a mark on his heart.
Buck retired from Chesterfield Manufacturing as a maintenance technician but also worked many years in construction. He was a jack of all trades, from electrician to auto mechanic along with heating/air conditioning. He was an Army Veteran serving his country in what he jokingly called the ‘cold war’ in Anchorage, Alaska. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do and shared his talents serving in New Hope Salkahatchie Camp each summer remodeling homes in the community for those that needed a helping hand. He was a baseball coach, Boy Scout leader and helped with a Ramp Ministry with the Chesterfield Baptist Association. He often could be found helping others and ministering to those hearts that needed extra love. His hugs would envelope you and make you feel so loved and cared for. He made thin layer chocolate cakes that would melt in your mouth.
As the Patriarch of our family, he was a provider, protector and he loved us no matter what. He would always be there for us and we knew he loved us. His advice to anyone would be, if you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance.
He was preceded in death by his parents along with his twin sister, Rita Hurst Melton; brother Jerry Hurst; his brother-in-law, Lathaniel Wilkerson; his niece Susan Mills Blue; his in-laws, Carroll and Lyvian Byrd Chapman; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joel and Mary Sue Chapman, Cathy and Gary Williams.
He leaves behind his wife, his daughter, Hope Rhyne Wallace and son, Robert Carroll Rhyne (Sherry); and his grandchildren, Logan Wallace, Christian Wallace (Joanne), Caragan Davis (Lucas), KateLin Wallace, Jorja Rhyne, Jade Sedberry (Kade), and his bonus grandkids, Danielle and Shane; great grandchildren: Brodie, Ariat and Declan. He has 3 surviving siblings, Patsy Mills, Betty Wilkerson, and Mickey (Peggy) Hurst along with his sister-in-law, Linda Hurst. He has numerous ‘adopted of the heart’ kids, and grandkids. He had so many special friends.
