Robert Carrison Rollins November 30, 1938 – May 17, 2026
Robert was patient, gentle, kind, and towering at 6'4" over nearly everyone around him — including his 5'2" bride of nearly 64 years. What made him feel larger than life had nothing to do with his height. It was his quiet, steady love and his thoughtfulness. Where Clara lit up a room the moment she walked in, Robert was her anchor — never needing to say much, but meaning every word when he did.
He loved Clara the way a man loves when he means it for keeps. He went everywhere she went, did everything beside her, and wore whatever she picked out for him — happily. He even painted her fingernails. In 64 years of marriage, they were rarely, if ever, apart. It is perhaps no surprise that just eleven days after losing her, he went to join her — and their daughter Melissa — in heaven. For those of us left behind, there is some comfort in knowing he didn't have to be without her for long.
Robert Carrison Rollins of Cheraw, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 17, 2026, at McLeod Health – Cheraw. Born on November 30, 1938, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Jennings Bryan "J.B." Rollins, Sr. and Maggie Brigman Rollins.
Robert proudly served as a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard. Throughout his career he was employed by Delta Mills and Retail Concepts before retiring from Financial Fixtures of Monroe, North Carolina. He was a master cabinet maker and owner and operator of Rollins Cabinet Shop, a craft he loved enough to share with his grandchildren.
A faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Robert served as a Sunday school teacher for the teenage boys' class, a member of the church choir, an active participant in the church brotherhood, and a Deacon who served one term as Chairman of the Deacons. Alongside Clara, he engaged in missionary work through the Southern Baptist Convention, carrying his faith to Chicago, Pennsylvania, Guatemala, India, and Nicaragua.
The grandchildren called him Pa-Pa, and also — affectionately — the Bacon Man. He loved to cook, especially breakfast. His signature was bacon, eggs, and grits — all of which he would mix together on his plate before taking a single bite. He loved the beach. He and Clara also loved loading up the RV and heading to Cheraw State Park with the grandchildren for days of biking and long walks together.
His grandchildren were everything to him. He was the kind of grandfather whose love felt like a foundation — and the kind of husband whose devotion set an example his grandchildren will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Mr. Rollins was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clara Marie Livingston Rollins, who passed away on May 6, 2026; his daughter, Melissa Rollins Jordan, who passed away on February 11, 2026; nephew Tim Liles; niece Angie Rollins; brothers J.B. Rollins, Jr. and wife Carmelita, and Marion Carl Rollins and wife Tish; and sisters Margaret R. Kirkland and husband Jim, Simonetta Rollins, Anne Liles and husband Bill, and Catherine Rivers and husband Edgar. He now rests with Clara and Melissa, reunited at last.
He is survived by his daughter, Carisa Rollins (Jamie) Huggins of Cheraw; son-in-law Lonnie Jordan of Cherry Grove Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren Maggie Marie Jordan and husband Jeremy Peters of New York City, Jessie Nicole Jordan of North Myrtle Beach, and Carie Grace Huggins, Allie Catherine Huggins, and Noah Jamison Huggins, all of Cheraw; sisters-in-law Margaret Sellers of Tabor City, North Carolina, and Evangelist Jane Livingston of Monroe, North Carolina; brother-in-law Julian White of McFarlan, North Carolina; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Crescent Hospice, Dr. Travis Novinger and the Palmetto Family Medicine staff, the staff of McLeod Health – Cheraw, and caregivers Jeanette Johnson, Marlene Eddins, and Kathleen Hooper for their exceptional care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Hopewell Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Lemuel Griggs and Evangelist Jane Livingston, with burial to follow in the church cemetery, accompanied by military honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 PM on the same day in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the International Mission Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention at www.imb.org.
