Rhett Allen

Chesterfield, SC

     Mr. Rhett Allen, age 87, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, August 23, 2026 at FreeWorship by Pastor Chad Vick with a private burial to follow in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the church and other times at the home of his daughter, Shellie.

     Mr. Allen was born on October 31, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC and raised by his late grandmother, Nellie Elizabeth Williams Allen. Mr. Allen was a hardworking and faithful man who dedicated many years of service to Delta and J.P. Stevens before retiring from Combraco. He also generously volunteered for many years with the Council on Aging, giving his time to serve and support others in his community.

     Rhett was a founding member of the ministry of FreeWorship in 2010, where he served for 16 years as a deacon and elder. Mr. Allen enjoyed singing and fishing, but his greatest passion was cooking. He loved sharing his gift and passion for cooking with friends, family, and neighbors. He was especially known for preparing meals for various prayer breakfasts throughout Chesterfield County, as well as for his award-winning barbecue.

     In addition to his grandmother, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his father, Robert Allen; mother, Mary Twitty Walters; and brother, Larry Allen.

     Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Virginia Allen; children, Varonica (John) Oehl of St. Augustine, FL, Shellie (John) Weeks of Cheraw, SC; grandson, Josh (Mandi) Wood of Chesterfield, SC; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Kailey, Easton; sisters, Goldie VanDerpoel of Chesterfield, SC, Gladys Butler of Chesterfield, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved grand puppy, “Leroy Jethro Gibbs.”
