Born on March 10, 1950, in Monroe, NC, he was the son of the late Albert Wilson “Bill” and Alma Rape Funderburk. Randy was a proud graduate of Pageland High School, class of 1967, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired truck driver for Tyson Foods, with over 24 years of service. Prior to that, he served as a police officer with the Town of Pageland Police Department.
Randy enjoyed spending time outdoors, often riding his mules and horses, and camping at Love Valley and Benson, NC. He also enjoyed reading, particularly war novels, and enjoyed watching classic western films. He loved listening to music, particularly, Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Known for his trademark Funderburk laugh that was unmistakable, Randy was often described as the life of the party. Above all, he took great pride in his role as a “Paw-Paw” to his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Sandra “Sandy” Kay Funderburk, and step-brother, Larry Rape.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Hancock, Tammy Funderburk Wright, Tim (Kim) Funderburk, Sissy (James) Price, Clint Funderburk, Angela (Jason) Newell, and Candice (Sean) Ellis. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Amanda (TJ) Whitaker, Brittney Funderburk, Mathew Nelson, Chasidy (Matt) Honeycutt, Robby (Amanda) Perry, Randall Perry, Jared Wilson, Hailey (Eric) Caskey, Kassie Sherbert, Chelsea Price, Will Sherbert, Brooke Price, Axl Funderburk, Knox Ellis, Miranda Newell, and Emory Ellis. He was also a proud grandfather to 19 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his step-sister, Geraldine Laney, numerous cousins, and his beloved dog, Lucy.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to hospice nurses Erica Greene and Madison Sellers, as well as the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield, for their exceptional care during this time.
