Mrs. Polly Jean Stroud Rivers, age 80, entered into rest on Thursday, August 20, 2020. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, Danny & Sandy Rivers.
Mrs. Rivers was born May 19, 1940 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Ernest Blease and Geneva Isabel Phillips Stroud. She, along with her husband, was the owner and operator of Suburban Kitchens, Inc. Polly was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. She enjoyed woodworking and making crafts, gardening, cooking, and sewing. She also enjoyed horseback riding and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rivers was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Thomas Rivers; sisters, Jerrold Ernestine Stroud, Mary “Monkey” Stroud Entzminger, Sandra “Sandy” McMorris; brother, Philip A. “Bo” Stroud; and nephew, Sedley King Entzminger, III.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Dempsey Rivers; children, Michael Dempsey (Melinda) Rivers of Monroe, NC, Charles Daniel (Sandy) Rivers of Chesterfield, SC, and Dee Dee (Terry) Pressley of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, James (Della) Alexander, Samantha Alexander (Jason) Broome, Riley Michelle Rivers, Catherine Danielle Rivers, Jacob Pressley, and Samantha Pressley; great grandchildren, Ellie, Rorie, Eva, and Ezra; sisters, Carolyn S. Marlowe of Gaston, SC, Beverly S. “Cookie” Russell of Winston Salem, NC, and Betty Ann Stroud of Columbia, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to friend and caregiver, Alice McCray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Union County, McWhorter Hospice House, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd. Monroe, NC 28110.
