MSG William Troy Moore, U.S. Army (Ret.)

Master Sergeant William Troy Moore, U.S. Army (Ret.), at the age of 97, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of July 1, 2026, at The Veteran Village of Florence. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Hopewell Baptist Church, officiated by The Honorable Rep. Pastor Richie Yow. Following the service, a committal with full military honors will take place at Mt. Croghan Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Monday, July 6, 2026 in the sanctuary of Hopewell Baptist Church and other times at the home of Brenda & Dewey Griggs.

Born on June 26, 1929, in Ruby, SC, Mr. Moore was the son of the late Ross C. and Rita Gulledge Moore. With unwavering patriotism and love for his country, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, dedicating over two decades to serving our great country. His distinguished service commenced in the final days of World War II and included two tours in both Vietnam as well as Germany. Renowned for his expertise and multiple awards in precision and high-power rifle competition, his accolades include the World War II Victory Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal in addition to numerous badges, commendations, and ribbons.

After retiring as Master Sergeant, Mr. Moore continued his career in maintenance with Burlington Industries and Conbraco Industries. He later earned a certification in heating and air from Chesterfield-Marlboro TEC and owned and operated Pee Dee Heating & Air Conditioning. A faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church, he actively participated in the Men’s Ramp Ministry as well as multiple church mission trips. He also enjoyed gardening and working on cars and tractors, with the reputation of being able to fix anything.

He was predeceased by his late wife, Delores C. Moore, and his first wife and mother of his children, Gladys Tucker Moore, along with brothers Billy F. Moore, Lomar B. Moore, Woodrow L. Moore, Merle G. Moore, and brother-in-law Larry K. Curtis.

Survivors include his children, Vicky (Larry) Phagan of Ruston, LA, Jerry “Jeannie” (David) Brigman of Chesterfield, SC, Brenda (Dewey) Griggs of Ruby, SC, and William Michael “Mike” (Sandy) Moore of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren, Christie, Scott, Ben, Rebecca, Taylor, Makayla and their families; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn M. Curtis of Ruby, SC; sisters-in-law, Shirley M. Lindsey, and Loretta G. Moore both of Ruby, SC; in addition to generations of nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Veteran Village of Florence and Patriot Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

On this Independence Day weekend, as we celebrate America's 250th birthday, may we pause and give thanks for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who have defended the freedoms we enjoy. May we never take their sacrifice or our liberty for granted!
