MSG (Retired) Bobby R. Brown

Chesterfield, SC    MSG (Retired) Bobby R. Brown , age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2025 at Pine Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Phillips and Brent Taylor. The committal service with full military honors will follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3:00 - 4:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the church.

Born on June 12, 1950, in Chesterfield, SC, Bobby was the son of the late William “Willie” Charlie Brown and Bertha Odom Brown. He graduated from Chesterfield High School in 1968. Bobby dedicated over 20 years to the U.S. Army, serving with honorable distinction during the Vietnam War and achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career he was awarded numerous decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two service stars.

In addition to his military career, Bobby was the owner and operator of Sgt. Lube for over 17 years. A faithful Christian man, he enjoyed sharing his faith in Jesus Christ with everyone he came in contact with and enjoyed attending Pine Grove Baptist Church. His hobbies included fishing and drag racing, but his passion was collecting and restoring classic cars. Above all, he was a devoted family man, who loved his children and took great pride in being a "Pa-pa" to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his infant siblings, Grace Brown, and Billy Brown; and siblings, Charles Brown, Leona Ferguson, Ila Hines, Lorene Watson, Iva Brock, Betty Caulder, Cammie Chinery, and Tony Wayne Brown.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Janice H. Brown; his sons, Jamie (Jami) Brown of Ruby, SC, and Michael (April) Brown of Jefferson, GA; grandchildren Rachel, Kaylee (Dalton) Hudson, Elisabeth, Madison (Kevin) Diggs, Sarah, Rebekah, Joanna, Nathan, Leah, and Micah Brown; great-granddaughter Wrenlee Hudson; sister Trena Curtis of Chesterfield, SC; sister-in-law Ann McDonald of Mullins, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to Joy FM (thejoyfm.com) in his memory.
