Metta Wright Pittman

Chesterfield, SC

Metta Wright Pittman was born on June 9, 1940 and left this world to be with her beloved, life long husband, John Wylie Pittman on April 13, 2026. Mr. and Mrs. Pittman was married on July 10, 1959 in Kings Mountain, NC and had three children. Virginia Anne Pittman Helms Byers of Kings Mountain, NC, Sarah Lynn Pittman, of Salisbury, NC and John Edward (Teresa) Pittman of Richfield, NC.

Together, they had 8 grandchildren. Danny Helms, Nikki (Billy) Burris, Joanna (Matthew) Kasper, Jeffery (Jennifer) McInnis, Leigh Valentine, Margaret Valentine, and Katherine Pittman. They also had a whole host of great grandchildren all of which meant the world to them as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Metta was last employed at the Cheraw Gazette at her dream job of a journalist. She was a published writer in her own right having published a book of short stories in the 1990’s. Metta liked everyone she ever met but she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly.

She requested that no flowers be sent to her funeral but rather donations be made to your local animal shelter as she was a best friend to the animals.

Her most memorable attribute was her sense of humor and her praise for others that shared this attribute with her. If you tried to make her laugh, you were instantly her friend. This obituary will end with words that she, herself requested. “When I die, I want someone to play somewhere over the rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. I also want someone to cut a hole in the bottom of my casket, hide underneath with a red pair of shoes and tap to the beat. I just want to see who’s left after that”. Smile

Mama is happier now than she has been since I have known her. She is now with her husband, her mother, her father, and her grandparents. Rest well Mama. Your work here is done. We will take it from here.

In accordance with Mrs. Pittman’s wishes, a private graveside service was held at the Thompson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home (www.mrcfuneralhome.com) is serving the Pittman family.
