Mecca LaRee Cross

          Mrs. Mecca LaRee Cross, age 63, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at her home. The family will host a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at St. John's Freewill Baptist Church. 

          Mrs. Cross was born September 15, 1960 in Monroe, NC a daughter of the late Charles and Ola Ree Edwards Abernethy. She was actively involved in various ministries at St. John’s Freewill Baptist church where she was a member. Mecca was a free spirit with an adventurous yet loving heart. It was not uncommon for Mrs. Cross to plan last minute trips whenever she felt compelled to go on an adventure. She had a tremendous talent and love for cooking. Mecca was also a gifted pianist with a passion for music. Mrs. Cross was a supportive friend, confidant, and mentor to many. Mecca was a wonderful person who could best be described as “everything beautiful in the world.”

          Mrs. Cross is survived by her husband, Larry Cross of the home; children, Brannon (Kaity) Walters of Lancaster, SC, Amanda Cross of Patrick, SC; grandchildren, Olyvia Walters, Dustin Goodwin, Tyler Goodwin, Alissa Cross; siblings, Chuck (Vickie) Abernethy of Midland, NC, Leigh Ann (Jean Pierre) Benlian of France, Megan (Rodney) Houghtaling of Heath Springs, SC; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
