Maxie Lee Gainey

It is with the deepest sorrow that our family shares the passing of Maxie Lee Gainey. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, July 17, 2026 at Pine Ridge Holiness Church by Pastor Phillip Jones and Pastor Jerry Gainey with burial to follow in the Green Hill Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. The family will continue to receive friends at Nancy and Kenny’s home, 402 Wilkes Chapel Church Rd., Hartsville, SC. The visiting hours will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Gainey was born December 10, 1964, in Cheraw, SC a son of the late Eddie Bonnie Gainey and Betty Robinson Gainey. Maxie loved his family, his church family and his hometown of Patrick. He served as a member of the Patrick Town Council and was also a member of the Patrick Pine Straw Festival Committee. He was active in the McBee Recreation Department where he selflessly gave of his time as an umpire and coached the 8U baseball team. Maxie was a faithful member of Green Hill Church of God of Prophecy where he served on numerous committees through the years.

To know Maxie was to know a true character. He had a gift for making people laugh and could light up any room he walked into. He was always cutting up, picking at someone, or talking a little trash—but that was simply his way of showing love. Beneath that playful spirit was a man with a generous heart who would help anyone he could. More than anything, he loved his children, and being “Poppy” to his granddaughters was truly the pride and joy of his life.

In addition to his parents, Maxie was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Audrey Gainey; his beloved wife of 33 years, Lisa Ann Dixon Gainey; grandson, Mason Kash McQueen; and brother, Frank Gainey.

Survivors include his son, Lee (Heather) Gainey of Patrick, SC; daughter, Taylor (Shaquille McQueen) Gainey of Patrick, SC; grandchildren, Kaydence Gainey and Mary Gainey; brothers, David (Kelli) Gainey of Cheraw, SC, and James (Karen) Gainey of Hartsville, SC; sister, Linda (Butch Smith) Johnson of Hartsville, SC; special friend, Robin Tyner McKenzie, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
