Marlene Barefoot Ray Melton

Ruby, SC

          Mrs. Marlene Barefoot Ray Melton, age 54, entered into rest on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Buddy Amerson and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Mount Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery, Patrick, SC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

          Mrs. Melton was born December 18, 1969 in Darlington, SC a daughter of the late Morgan Thomas and Sarah Ellen Walters Barefoot. She was a former employee of INA Bearing and Joann Narrow Fabrics. Marlene spent most of her working career at Dixie Food Mart in Lancaster, where she managed the store grill & café. She grew up in her family’s home church, Mount Olivet Baptist Church and later attended Union Baptist Church in Lancaster. An exceptional cook, Marlene enjoyed collecting recipe books and sharing them with her family. She also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her cats. Marlene will be remembered as a lady who never met a stranger and was always looking for ways to help others.          

          In addition to her parents, Mrs. Melton was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Hope Ray.

          Survivors include her husband, Jamie Melton of the home; son, Chase Ray of Ruby, SC; brothers, James (Shirley) Barefoot, Robert (Denise) Barefoot, and Perry (Angel) Barefoot all of Patrick, SC; brothers-in-law, Tim (Debra) Melton, and Dustin Melton both of Ruby, SC; father-in-law, Carroll Melton of Ruby, SC; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

          Memorials may be made to a humane society or animal shelter of one’s choice.
