SUMMERTON - Mannie Wilson “Rick” Rickenbaker, 73, affectionately known by his family as “Big Daddy”, went to his heavenly home on Monday, July 24, 2023.

Rick was the son of the late Henry Burchell Rickenbaker and Henrietta Tindal Rickenbaker. Rick graduated from Clarendon Hall and attended the Baptist College of Charleston. In addition to a career in farming, Rick enjoyed spending time with his family on the Lizzie Creek section of Lake Marion. Rick was known for occasional mischief with his childhood friends, Percy Harvin, Harvey Belser and Alex Harvin, growing up in Summerton. He loved old boats, cars and anything that required a push to start. His wit was part of his charm and he loved his Clemson Tigers.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carla Webb Rickenbaker; four children, Cheri Haney (Ben) of Manning, Chad Rickenbaker (Joye) of Travelers Rest, Carla Livingston (Jay) of Orangeburg, and Mandy Rivers (Brian) of Chesterfield; his adoring eleven grandchildren, Tourie, Abby & Ragyn Haney, Wil, Hannah, Rachel & David Rickenbaker, Makenzie & Madilynn Livingston, and Dylan & Payton Rivers; two sisters, Lela Rickenbaker Lance (Art) of Florence and Connie Rickenbaker Bell (Lester) of Sumter; a brother, H. Burchell Rickenbaker, Jr. (Julie) of Summerton; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

The family is especially thankful for those that provided such love and care during his illness, McLeod Hospice Services, Dr. Robert S. Eagerton, Betty Conyers and Ernestine Canty.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Paul Cemetery in Summerton with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
