Lola Baumberger Goodale, age 84, daughter of Claude and Verla Baumberger of Rapid City, South Dakota, went home to be with Jesus on 8/20/25, surrounded by the love of family, with her daughters by her side.
A service to celebrate her beautiful life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 22, 2025 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Mark Phillips. The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
A precious mother and devoted grandmother, Lola touched every heart she met. She had a rare gift for making a stranger feel like an old friend, and her warmth and love will be remembered always.
If you knew Lola, you knew she would never let you forget where she came from - the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. She and Thomas often took their family back for many visits so their children would share the same love for her homeland.
At the young age of 12, Lola learned to sew and helped contribute to her family’s finances. She often told stories of walking to school in below-freezing temperatures through layers of snow, ice skating on frozen lakes, and her Catholic school education.
Soon after meeting the love of her life, Tom, she moved to the South and raised 4 beautiful children. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to share stories about them.
A splendid cook, her table was always a place of warmth and welcome. Her children and grandchildren never left her kitchen hungry. A bite of her food was a reflection of her love. She was often heard saying to her kids “you just tell me what to cook, and I’ll cook it.”
As the matriarch of our family, Lola was the heart of our home. Her passing leaves a great void in our lives, but her love, faith, and spirit will continue to guide us always.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Joe and Bob Baumberger; sisters, Connie, Elsie, and Betty; daughter, Peggy Hicks; granddaughter, Heather Sanada -Malpass; and father of her children, Thomas Goodale.
Survivors include daughter, Cindy Goodale Malpass (Howard); Elizabeth Goodale Noble (Derrick); son, Tom Goodale (Shellie).
Grandchildren: Chris Malpass (Rebecca), Shane Hicks (Brittany), Courtney Hicks Hair (David), Hailey Noble Hornbacher (Samuel), Madison Noble (Vitor), Ethan Goodale, Emma Goodale (Wyatt).
Great-grandchildren: Shawna Malpass Linder (Shane), Zach Malpass (Maddy) Kayley Malpass (Brian), Aeva Hines, Asher Hines, Mark Haire.
Great-great-grandchildren: Lukas Linder, and Lola eagerly anticipated two additional grandsons this fall.
Lola will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, friends, and also her fur baby, Lulu, who was always by her side.
“His Master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share your master’s happiness.’” — Matthew 25:23
