It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Kirby Marion Purvis, who left this world on May , 2026, at the Kate B. Hospice House in Winston Salem NC after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 14, 1966, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, Kirby's journey through life was marked by a spirited passion for music, a generous heart, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved. Kirby was the beloved son of Patricia Ann Roscoe Gainey and his stepfather, Earl Gainey, both of whom predeceased him. Though they are no longer with us, their love and teachings have undoubtedly shaped the remarkable person Kirby became.

He is survived by his sister, April Purvis (Andy Jackson) of Florence SC, and his daughter, Kameron Purvis (Donald Stubbs) of Charleston SC who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and generosity, his Aunt Aronica (Bennie Teal) of Chesterfield, SC who he always loved her meat loaf and in his final days talked about her meatloaf.

A proud graduate of Chesterfield High School in Chesterfield, SC, Kirby's early love for music led him to a vibrant career as a DJ. His journey began during his high school years, spinning records at the local skating rink and hosting parties. His talent and enthusiasm soon landed him a job at WCRE in Cheraw, SC. Kirby's career flourished when he moved to Charlotte, where he worked at a radio station, rubbing shoulders with country and rock stars, legendary wrestlers, and NASCAR drivers. His work was not just a job but a calling that brought joy to countless listeners and friends.

Beyond his professional achievements, Kirby was a man of many interests. He found solace and purpose in screen printing t-shirts, a hobby that became his therapy during his fight with cancer. With unwavering faith, he adorned shirts with religious quotes and donated them to hospices and homeless shelters, spreading messages of hope and resilience to those in need.

Kirby was known for his fun-loving and caring nature, traits that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter was infectious, and his kindness knew no bounds. Kirby's heart was a beacon of light, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him to live with compassion and joy.

In honor of Kirby's memory, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Cancer Services of Davidson County in Lexington, NC, an organization close to his heart.

The Purvis family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kirby's loyal friends—Aron and Carmen Craver Joyce Charles , Danny and Rita Bullin ,Brant Watts and Becky Watkins and Ray Howell. Your unwavering support and love during Kirby's final journey meant the world to him and to us. You will never know how much we love and appreciate everything you have done. We also extend our deepest thanks to the staff at the Kate B. Hospice House for their compassionate care and support.

As we remember Kirby, let us celebrate a life lived with love, laughter, and endless generosity. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched, a testament to a life beautifully lived. Rest in peace, dear Kirby. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Respecting Kirbys last wishes there will be no service and his ashes will sit beside his mother's ashes at April's house
