Chesterfield, SC – Mrs. Kay Smith Simmons, age 68, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025, at her residence, with her beloved husband, Don Simmons, by her side. Throughout their 49 years of marriage, Don stood devotedly by her side, honoring their vows of love and commitment in both sickness and health.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mark Phillips and Brent Taylor. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, June 3, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mac & Mary Alice Simmons.
Kay was born on October 27, 1956, in Chesterfield, SC, to the late William Perry "Doc" and Rutha Lee Turner Smith. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, class of 1976, and dedicated over 14 years of service as an employee of Wal-Mart in Cheraw. Along with her husband, she co-owned and operated Simmons Auto Repair. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Kay enjoyed several pastimes, including crocheting, camping, and riding motorcycles with her husband. She was also a proud "Granny" to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Carolyn Smith, and her brother, Junior Melton.
She is survived by her husband, Don Simmons, of the home; her children, Phyllis Hicks of Laurel Hill, NC, and Mac (Mary Alice) Simmons of Chesterfield, SC; her grandchildren, Brett (Jessica) Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Cheyenne Simmons, and Sebastien Simmons; along with two great-grandchildren. Kay's legacy continues through her siblings, Ann Melton of Chesterfield, SC, Lisa Smith of Chesterfield, SC, Tammy (Brad) Starnes of Dandridge, TN, and Larry (Teresa) Smith of Chesterfield, SC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hannah, Matthew, Sabrina, and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their exceptional care and support provided to Kay and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield, 205 E. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
