Kathy Teal

Hartsville, SC

Born January 27, 1957 in Anson County, NC. She was the daughter of the late William Stamey Durham and the late Mildred Brower Durham Cockrell.

Kathy was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Hartsville, SC. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, singing, and playing piano and was a huge Harry Potter fan.

She also had a love of learning. As an adult, she got her GED. Soon after she attended Francis Marion University, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with a minor in pre-Law. Years later she attended Coker University, graduating with a Bachelor of Sociology Degree.

Kathy worked various jobs in her life. She worked many jobs for the State, as a Teacher, Guardian Ad Litem, and ran a half-way house for paroles. She also worked in retail and was retired from Grits and Grocery convenience Stores.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Marie Teal and grandsons Nickolas Hunt, Dakota Player, and Gabriel Player all of Hartsville. Her brother Tim (Shirley) Cockrell of Lucama, NC. Sisters Lynn Ferrell of Hartsville, SC, Cynthia (Brian) Dove of Wilson, NC. Her best friend Lucy Eddy, and honorary grandson Mitchell Eddy, both of Hartsville. Her Harry Potter friend Zackary Wright, and cousin by blood-sister by heart Gale Lang Teal. Also, one half-sister and three half-brothers. Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Grady Teal Sr, son Grady Teal Jr, and brothers Samuel Cockrell, and Dallas Cockrell Jr.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Jeff Williams with burial to follow in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
