In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
Mr. Brown was born on Saturday, September 4, 1937, in Chesterfield County, SC. He is the son of the late John LaCoste Brown and the late Maude Brigman Brown.
After graduating from Ruby High School, Leroy joined the United States Army and served for 20 years, including serving in Vietnam. In his final five years of service, he was the ground chief foreman of the Executive Flight Crew (Army One), serving both Presidents Nixon and Ford.
Following his retirement from the Army, he worked at International Mineral and Chemical (IMC) in Hartsville, South Carolina, where he retired as the General Foreman. After his second retirement, he faithfully worked at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home for yet another 20 years.
His most important role, however, was his love and care for his family as he was a proud father, grandfather, “Papa”, and great-grandfather.
Leroy was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church, working on many mission trips and church committees. He was a member of other local community organizations as well. His life was marked by dedication to sharing his faith, hard work, and humble service to others. In the last year, he made many new friends at Bethea Retirement Home. Leroy never met a stranger, and if he did, he introduced himself and shook their hand. Filled with stories, he was a gifted conversationalist. He will be missed on this earth, and heaven is rejoicing that his faith has been made sight.
He is survived by his son, Coy L. (Lorelie) Brown of Charleston, SC; his sister, Doris Bowen; and his grandchildren, Drew L. (Alexis) Brown, Emma M. (Jacob) Dukes, and Reagan E. (Garrison) Green; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald W. Brown; brother-in-law, Julian Bowen.
"But Heaven is rejoicing that his faith has been made sight."
