Mrs. Bridges was born August 26, 1956 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Margaret Melton Jenkins. She was a member of Ruby Presbyterian Church and formerly a long-time member of White Oak Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Chesterfield – Marlboro TEC, where she attained her C.N.A. training. Joye retired from Chesterfield General Hospital with over 30 years of service. Over her career, she worked as a volunteer at the hospital, a C.N.A. in Labor & Delivery, Procurement Materials Specialist, and her longest tenure was serving as a phlebotomist. Joye was a mentor to many young nursing professionals over her career.
Outside of her career of serving others, Joye enjoyed traveling, especially trips to the mountains. She also enjoyed being a part of Civil War reenactments along with her late husband, David. She was known for her love of animals and welcomed all types to be a part of her family on Red Hill Farm. She was known for spoiling her beloved dog, “Gypsy,” “Charlie,” the cat, and providing a home to numerous chickens. A lady with a larger-than-life personality, Joye always brought a smile to everyone she encountered. Of all things she accomplished and was proud of, nothing was more important to her than the titles of “G-Ma” and “Nanny” to her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Bridges was also preceded in death by the love of her life, David C. Bridges; and beloved great aunt, O’Dell Oliver.
Survivors include her children, Kristen Bridges (Jamie) Smith and Kim Bridges (Justin) Teal, both of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Adam and Kaitlin Smith and Mackenzie and Kamryn Teal; special family member, Dot Welch; sister of the heart, Sharon Thurman; numerous cousins; and her extended Lab family from Chesterfield General Hospital.
