Mrs. Joyce Hancock Rivers, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 6, 2019. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Randy Bishop and Brent Taylor with the eulogy being delivered by her son, Tim Rivers. The committal service will follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rivers was born November 20, 1927 in Ruby, SC a daughter of the late Carl Ezra and Annie Campbell Hancock. She was a graduate of Ruby High School and King’s Business College. She served as secretary for the Pee Dee Baptist Association for a number of years. A Godly lady who was always active in the ministry, Joyce was a devoted and selfless Pastor’s wife, always supporting her husband in the work of the Lord. One of her greatest joys in ministry was working with little children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hudson, NC. A lady who enjoyed being outside in God’s nature, Joyce enjoyed watching butterflies, and maintaining her beautiful and exquisite floral gardens.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Dr. Billy G. Rivers; twin brothers, Harold and Harris Hancock; sisters, Madge Wilkins, and Jean Hancock Curtis

Survivors include her children, Bill (Carol) Rivers of Fairview, NC, Sammy (Nancy) Rivers of Ellerbe, NC, Tim (Paula) Rivers of Greensboro, NC, and Joy Rivers (Phil) Parsons of Mt. Airy, NC; sister, Bertie Willis and husband Joe of Simpsonville, SC; 1 brother, Terry Hancock of Cheraw, SC; brother-in-law, Bill Curtis of Chesterfield, SC; and 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and family at Flesher’s Fairview Health & Retirement Center and the staff of Four Seasons Hospice for the love and care shown to Mrs. Rivers and her family.
