Mr. Johnny Wilson Helms, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor David Roscoe with burial to follow in the Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Helms was born January 18, 1947 in Monroe, NC a son of the late Vann McCoy and Dorothy Trull Helms. He was an employee of Heidelberg Materials with over 20 years of service. A man who loved the Lord, Johnny was a faithful member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he enjoyed playing the drums and was a former Sunday school teacher. He also enjoyed working in his garden, riding his tractor, and mowing grass.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Helms was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Myra Ann Helms; and grandson, Brandon Lee Ellis.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Daphne Oliver Helms of the home; children, Donna (Linus) Pressley, Teresa (Mike) Ellis, Tim (Kristi) Helms all of Marshville, NC, Lisa Bumgarner of Polkton, NC, and Mary Ruth Helms of N. Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Steven (Crystal) Ellis, Chandler (Sami) Helms, Jordan (Amanda Stone) Helms, Raylee Bumgarner, and Kamron Bumgarner; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Elvan Helms of Stallings, NC, Billy (Pam) Helms of Monroe, NC; brothers-in-law, Donnie (Margaret) Horton of Childersburg, AL, Darryl Oliver of the Angelus community; sister-in-law, Debra Johnson of the Angelus community; and nephew, Dustin (Cathlin) Helms of Monroe, NC.
