Mr. John E. Purvis, age 71, entered into rest on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Jason Pope. A private burial will follow in the Thompson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Purvis was born July 31, 1954 in Wadesboro, NC a son of the late Charles William Purvis and Ruby Lee Johns Purvis. He was a retired employee of A.O. Smith with 40 years of service. A dedicated employee, John was known for never missing a day of work.
John enjoyed attending Mt. Croghan Baptist Church with his wife and going for a drive together through the countryside. They also enjoyed cooking together and his favorite meal was always spaghetti. John enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and wouldn’t miss a line on each page. He was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and enjoyed watching football. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and later could often be found sitting on his porch enjoying God’s creation.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Purvis was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Ann Purvis; brother, William Barney Purvis; and nephews, Mark Alan Purvis and Joe Purvis.
Survivors include his siblings, Charles (Melba) Purvis of Thomasville, NC; Frances Purvis of Chester, SC; and Nancy (Mike) Henry of Chester, SC; special aunt of the heart and devoted caregiver, Pauline Hurst; nephews, Chris Purvis, Mike Henry II, and Charles L. Purvis, Jr.; and his beloved puppy, “Peanut.”
Memorials may be made to Mt. Croghan Baptist Church, 14 Church Street, Mt. Croghan, SC 29727.
