John Henry Gardner, 76, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC.

Born January 7, 1947, in Chesterfield, SC, he was a son of the late Gordon Garrison and Lula Mae Previtte Gardner. John received an associate degree from Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College and was a retired electrician with Galey & Lord in Society Hill, SC. John served in the U.S. military and was a member of the Bennettsville First Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Kinley.

John is survived by his wife, Charlie Mae Williams Gardner of the home; son, Matthew John Gardner of Pembroke, NC; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Gardner of McColl, SC; stepdaughters, Demetria Abbey (Brent) of Graham, NC and Cindy Jackson of Bennettsville; brother, Billy Gardner (Linnie) of Mt. Croghan; sister Betty Lewis (Larry) of Mt. Croghan; grandchildren, Matthew John Gardner, Jr., Steve Anthony Gardner, and Dakota Austin Gardner; step grandchildren, Matthew Abbey, Blake O’Donnell, and Christopher Jackson; step grandchild, Everleigh Hope Jackson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Bennettsville First Church of the Nazarene in Bennettsville, with burial to follow at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield, SC. A visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m., just prior to the service at the church.
