Mrs. Martha “Jill” Courtney Watson, age 71, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. A memorial service will be 6:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Wolf Pond Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Evans and her brother-in-law, Carroll Jenkins. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.
Mrs. Watson was born May 21, 1952 in Monroe, NC a daughter of the late Charles and Emmie Laney Courtney. Mrs. Jill was a faithful member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church. She had a special talent for cooking and no one could make macaroni and cheese as well as she could. Jill had a generous heart and she would share her baked goods with residents at the nursing home as well as family members on their birthdays. Mrs. Watson was known for her sweet demeanor and she could make friends with whomever she met. Above all else, Jill loved her family. She was a caring mother and a best friend to all of her sisters.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Watson; brothers, George “Buddy” Courtney, and Tommy Courtney.
Survivors include her daughters, Angela (Mitch) Anderson of Pageland, SC, and Amanda (Dave) Rushing of Matthews, NC; sister and daughter of the heart, Tonie (Tim) Ayers of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Sydney (Matt Fisher) Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Nathan Rushing, Ava Rushing, Kyle (Felicia) Ayers, Dawson Ayers, Bryce Ayers; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Fisher, Raylan Ayers; sisters, Brenda Harvell, Ann (Tim) Gaddy, Shirley (Jerry) Hatley, Peggy Barwick, Robin (Carroll) Jenkins; brother, Doug (Christa) Courtney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to the Pageland Fire Department and Pageland Rescue Squad, 111 N. Poplar St. Pageland, SC 29728 or to Wolf Pond Baptist Church, 78 Wolf Pond Church Rd. Pageland, SC 29728.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Pageland Fire & Rescue, CenterWell Home Health, and Via Health Partners for their care that allowed Mrs. Watson to remain in her home throughout her illness.
