Jane Sowell Sox passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at her home in McBee, SC.

Born on November 18th, 1930, to Charlie Dewey Sowell and Myrtis Woodberry Sowell. She attended McBee Public Schools and furthered her education at Winthrop College where she majored in Home Economics. She pursued her passion for Home Economics by working in Lexington County as a Home Demonstration Agent, then becoming a teacher in the Public Education School System. She married her husband (Kenneth R. Sox) in December of 1953. After marriage they moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she continued her career as a Home Demonstration Agent. In 1955, Kenneth and Jane moved back to the farm in McBee, SC.

A devoted Farmer’s Wife, Jane worked tirelessly alongside her husband building a life rooted in faith, hard work and service. She was a dedicated schoolteacher for many years, shaping young minds with patience, kindness, and high expectations, and she remained proud of her students after she left the classroom in 1992.

Jane was a faithful and influential church leader, serving in numerous roles throughout her life. Her deep faith guided her actions, and she was known for her strength, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need.

Above all, Jane cherished her family. She was a loving mother of three daughters, a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren, and a proud great-grandmother to six. She delighted in their accomplishments by sharing stories, her wisdom and unconditional love. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming and her encouragement constant.

Jane will be remembered for her strong work ethic, caring spirit and unwavering devotion to God and Family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched – as a wife, teacher, leader and matriarch. If you asked any of her students, they would tell you she had a soft spot for her seniors.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Kenneth R. Sox) and her son-in-law Wayne M. Reed: She is survived by her three daughters, Hazel A. Sox (Wendell Perdue), Carolyn S. Reed, Joyce S. Clark (Brian), four grandchildren, Ashley C. Keith (Carter); James D. Clark “Dustin” (Elyse); Elizabeth R. Dees (Justin); Karrie C. Wheeler (Burlin “Joey”) and six great-grands, (Keegan, Brighton, Cayson and Haven Clark) and (Townes and Wylder Grace Keith).
