Kenny, or Doot to those who knew him best, was born on October 27, 1951 as the second son of the late James Calhoun and Lucille Gardner Jowers. Raised in downtown Angelus, South Carolina he would become beloved by all who knew him. Kenny was an employee of Carolina Power & Light (later Progress Energy and Duke Energy) for nearly 45 years where he made lifelong friends.
Kenny married the love of his life Deanna Overcash on February 2, 1990 and they had 2 sons, Calin and Cash. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle to his family who all loved him dearly. His family and friends would tell you that his favorite pastime was sitting around sharing stories, telling jokes, and making everyone around feel good. It was extremely hard not to have a good time when Doot was around.
He enjoyed playing golf, even though he would constantly say how much he hated it and that he was never playing again. The fellowship with his friends was what he enjoyed the most about it and he looked forward to spending time with them. Doot loved Clemson football and got to watch those Tigers win 3 national championships. He loved spending game days at his brother Milton’s house with their game day crew watching the Tigers play. He was also an avid car enthusiast and would spend hours watching classic car auctions on TV and studying cars online.
Kenny was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna Jowers, his parents Calhoun and Lucille Jowers, his sister-in-law Jan Jowers, and his friends Ken Neff, Johnnie Jenkins, and Ronald Blackwell.
He is survived by his sons Calin Jowers of Angelus, SC and Cash Jowers of Columbia, SC, his brothers Jimmy Jowers of Jefferson, SC, and Milton Jowers of Angelus, SC, his nephews Jamie (Shelly) Jowers of Angelus, SC and David (Leah) Jowers of Pageland, SC, his brother in laws Dave (Maritta Overcash) of Mooresville, NC, Dean Overcash of Sanford, NC, Doug (Vonn) Overcash of Rock Hill, SC, and Darrell Overcash of Sanford, NC, Phil (Teresa) Rollins of Jefferson, SC and Ricky (Debbie) Rollins of Charleson, SC, as well as friends, Al Johnson, Bill Butler, Danny Griggs, Tommy Dutton, Mike Tiller, Eddie Kirkley, Cootie Kirkley, Mack Horton, Dickie Morrison, and so many others.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kenny’s memory to the Angelus Methodist Cemetery Fund, 15018 Angelus Rd. Jefferson, SC 29718.
