Gladys Melton Black

Ruby, SC 

 Mrs. Gladys Melton Black, age 67, affectionately known as “Cootie,” entered into rest on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, July 21, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Ricky “Sweet” Jenkins and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Black was born October 19, 1956 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Manuel and Lucille Hancock Melton. She was a retired employee of Caro-Knit and a former cook with Stroud & Save of Chesterfield. Gladys enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her homemade biscuits. A lady who loved her family deeply, her greatest title was “Ma Gladys” to her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Black was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn M. Vining; and father-in-law, Hazel Black.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Tony Black of the home; children, DeWayne Allen of Chesterfield, SC, Brandon Black, and Adam Black both of Ruby, SC; grandchildren, Kelsey Allen, Zaden Black, Dillon Black, Heaven Black, Haley Black, and Hayden Black; sisters, Vivian Brigman, and Vicky (Frank) McIntyre both of Ruby, SC; brothers, Carroll Melton, Ricky (Diane) Melton, and Danny Melton all of Ruby, SC; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Black of Ruby, SC; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
