Obituary
MT. GILEAD – On Sunday, January 17, 2021, Senior Chief Petty Officer, Gary H. Adams, US Navy Ret., entered into rest.
The family will greet friends from 1:00pm until 2:30pm Wednesday, January 20, 2021 during an informal visitation at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. A graveside service, with full military honors, will follow in Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lilesville with Pastor Cliff Henson officiating.
He was born January 25, 1938 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Ernest Washington Adams, Sr. and the late Louise Crepps Adams Shaver.
He served in the United States Navy with 27 years and 9 months of service. He served during the Vietnam War. Following retirement from the Navy, received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Chesterfield Marlboro Technical College in Cheraw, SC and was the Chief of Police for Chesterfield, SC for 4 years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ollie Thompson Adams; his daughters, Janie (David) Demby of Lancaster, SC, Connie Dean of Seneca, SC, Tracy (Jeff) Spencer of Cheraw, SC and Shannon (Ray) Barbour of Chesterfield, SC; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Lori) Campbell of Florence, SC, Cody Spencer (Monika Eddins) of Cheraw, SC, Kaine Simpson (Bethany Parks) of Chesterfield, SC, Kayla (Rodney) Tyndall of Cheraw, SC, Brianna Dean of Seneca, SC, DJ Demby of Lancaster, SC; his great-grandson, Coen Davis of Patrick, SC; his brother, Michael Adams of Elizabeth, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Also, his step-children, Sherri Goodman of Martinsville, VA, Sonya (John) Baldwin of Athens, WV and Amber (Wayne) Beasley of Daniels, WV; his step-grandchildren, Timothy Goodman (krystal Kennedy) of Martinsville, VA, Scott Thompson (Jordan Bradley), and Tony Baldwin both of Athens,WV, Paige Jenkins and Britt Beasley both o Daniels, SV and Trent Sagady of Bluefield, WV and his step-great-grandchildren, Allison Goodman of Martinsville, WV and Brynlee Thompson of Athens, WV.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie for the wonderful care they gave to Gary and their family.
