Frances Riddle Jones

We are sharing this obituary on behalf of the Jones family. Mrs. Jones’ granddaughter, Christina, is a resident of Chesterfield, South Carolina.

Mrs. Frances Riddle Jones, age 91, passed away on August 13, 2026, on Johns Island, South Carolina. Born on March 27, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, she lived a long life rooted in care for others and in the simple, enduring joys of creativity, family, and fellowship.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Marion Riddle; her husband, Charles Jones; her daughter, Nancy Young; her grandson, Franklin Binnar; her son-in-law, Dennis Melvin; and her siblings, Mary Meekins, George Petit, Harold Petit, Adelaide Aldridge, Betty Hurd, Shirley Crawford, Charles Riddle, and Barbara Hesse.

She leaves behind her daughters, Mary Melvin, Charlene (Neal)Crosby, and Teresa (Kenneth) Jones. She also leaves her grandchildren, Erin (O'Neal) Melvin, Mark (Lisa) Young, Tenneal (Jeremy) Reus, Sean (Lindsay) Melvin, Charles (Rebekah) Crosby, Christina (Chance) England, and Ashley (Stone) Locklear; her great-grandchildren, Josh, JJ, Carlee, Makayla, Payton, Sophie, Omari, Kara, Jackson, Hayley, Lathan, Evelyn, John, Emerson, Marley, River, and Paisley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Frances was known for the generous way she welcomed people into her life. She was loving and adopted everyone as her own. She did not know a stranger and would help anyone in need. Those qualities shaped the way she moved through the world and remain a lasting part of the memory she leaves with those who knew her.

She also found great happiness in working with her hands. She loved arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, doll making and collecting, quilting, and embroidery. These interests were more than pastimes; they were part of the way she expressed care, patience, and attention, and they filled her days with purpose and beauty. Her appreciation for handmade work and creative detail was a meaningful part of her life.

Prior to her death, Mrs. Jones attended weekly Respite Care of Charleston meetings at St. John's Episcopal Church on Johns Island, South Carolina. That regular connection was an important part of her routine and community.

Mrs. Frances Riddle Jones will be remembered with love by her family and by the many people whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and openhearted spirit. Her memory will continue to live on in the family she cherished, in the creative work she loved, and in the many lives made better by her willingness to care for others.
