Chesterfield, SC - Mr. Elijah Dixon, age 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 17, 2025, at the MUSC Florence Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, conducted by Brent Taylor, with burial to follow at McBee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Saturday at the funeral home, with a viewing available at his residence from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.
Mr. Dixon was born on April 20, 1938, in Hartsville, SC, the son of the late Brock and Idell Hicks Dixon. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and retired after 22 years with Georgia Power Company. Known for his work ethic, Elijah enjoyed tinkering with vehicles and had a passion for fishing, often catching and cleaning them for family fish fries. He was most proud to be a "Pa-pa" and "Pops" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris Jean Bowers Dixon; his brothers, Jessie “Dick” Dixon and Harvey Lee Dixon; and his sister, Rachel Yarborough.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his children, Billy Joe (Stacy) Dixon of Patrick, SC; Danny Wayne (Sherri) Dixon of Chesterfield, SC; David Scott (Leigh Ann) Dixon of Patrick, SC; Sherrie Lynn Allen of North Augusta, SC; and Sandra Lee Miskelly of Clearwater, SC. He leaves behind a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia A. Rogers of Chesapeake, VA; Anne McCormick of Cheraw, SC; and Becky Ann Hayden of Suffolk, VA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
