Dorothy "Dottie" Ann Burroughs Pusser

Mrs. Dorothy "Dottie" Ann Burroughs Pusser, aged 83, formerly of Chesterfield, South Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of April 12, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, North Carolina.

Born on February 13, 1943, in Red Springs, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Julian Carr Burroughs, Sr. and Dorothy Drake McPhaul Burroughs. Mrs. Pusser was a graduate of Red Springs High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. In August 1967, she married Charles Rouse Pusser, Jr., with whom she shared 54 years of marriage and made their home in Chesterfield, South Carolina.

Dottie dedicated over 40 years to educating young minds as a middle school teacher. She was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Chesterfield and, following her move to Coats, North Carolina, she worshipped with her family at South Erwin Baptist Church in Erwin, North Carolina. Known for her kind nature and humble Christian spirit, Mrs. Pusser was a devoted pastor’s wife and cherished friend to many. She found joy in reading, gardening, and above all, in being “Grandma” to her beloved grandchildren.

Mrs. Pusser was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Rouse Pusser, Jr., and her brother Julian Burroughs, Jr.

She is survived by her children: Charles Rouse (Jennie) Pusser, III of Knoxville, Tennessee; Thomas (Janelle) Pusser of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; and Joshua (Natalie) Pusser of Coats, North Carolina. Also surviving are her grandchildren Maggie, Cayden, Lyla, Olivia, Andrew, Aniston, and Beau Pusser; her sister Edna Rose (Frank) Beard of Lumberton, North Carolina; and sisters-in-law Harriet DeLoach of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Jean Burroughs of Winston Salem, North Carolina.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of MUSC Columbia Health and SECU Hospice House for the compassionate care provided.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Pine Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Mark Phillips and Pastor Drew Parker with tributes being delivered by her 3 sons. Burial will follow at Chesterfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
