Dorothy "Dot" W. Welch

Chesterfield, SC – Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” W. Welch, age 99, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Springhill Assisted Living of Pageland.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, officiated by Brent Taylor. The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home. A private graveside service will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Welch was born on August 8, 1925, in Chesterfield, SC, to the late Edgar Lee Wadsworth and Joyce Rayfield Wadsworth. She was a proud graduate of Ruby High School and a dedicated member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she cherished her time working with children in the nursery and was recognized as the church’s oldest living member. Mrs. Dot was known for her kindness, exemplified by her practice of sending handwritten cards to family, friends, and members of her community for every occasion.

As the matriarch of her family, Mrs. Welch took great joy in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, lovingly referred to as “Grandma” by many. She was committed to her daily Bible study and enjoyed reading God’s word. She was known for being a "night owl" and would often start her day around lunchtime, following a routine that included her Bible study, a few cups of coffee, and her beauty regime before embracing the day ahead around 3:30 PM.

Mrs. Welch was the last surviving sibling and was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Welch; her brothers, Robert C. “Bob” Wadsworth and Jim Wadsworth; her sister, Shirley W. Gardner; and her son, Tony H. Welch.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Robi (Todd) Smallwood and Justin Welch, both of Chesterfield, SC; her great-grandchildren, Holt (Caroline) Eddins and Cara (Zac) Hall, both of Chesterfield, SC, Anderson Smallwood of Wilmington, NC, and Cloe and Alyvia Todd Smallwood, also of Chesterfield, SC; as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Tybee, Lennon, and Sloane.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all caregivers, friends, and family for their extraordinary love, prayers, and support over the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Welch's love for children to the March of Dimes (www.marchofdimes.org) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
