Donald "Don" Hendricks, age 87, of Patrick, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Affectionately known to many as "Daddy Don," Mr. Hendricks was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Born on October 20, 1938, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late James Sumner and Mildred Rebekah Therrell and was raised by his grandparents, the late Lester Huntley Therrell and Bessie Crabtree Therrell. A proud veteran, Mr. Hendricks served in the U.S. Navy and was also a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard.
Mr. Hendricks was a skilled carpenter known for his exceptional talent in building and design. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cheraw, South Carolina, where he held a special place in his heart for missionaries and actively supported local churches. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, participating in a bowling league for many years.
Throughout his life, Don cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, lovingly known as "Papa Don" and "Grandpa Don" by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one brother, and an infant daughter.
Mr. Hendricks is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Deborah Hendricks; children Donna Suzan Hendricks Schlegelmilch (Jerry), Debby Hendricks Gonzalez (Victor), Rhonda Hendricks Pearson, Cynthia Kay Hendricks, Rebekah Hendricks Taylor, Robert “Bobby” Eugene Hendricks (Misty), Bessie Hendricks, Valerie Jean Gregory (Richard), and Marianne Hendricks; special daughter of the heart, Alexus “Lexie” Peace; 39 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Taylor Shaw; brother-in-law, Robert “Tiger” Taylor; and a large extended family, including cousins he considered brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cheraw, South Carolina, officiated by President Bren Lowe. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church. Burial will be private at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
