Charles Robert "Robby" Smith

Charles Robert “Robby” Smith, age 70, of Jefferson, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born on August 2, 1955, in Monroe, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas Smith and Laura Deese Johnson.

Mr. Smith was a 1974 graduate of Central High School and a devoted member of Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church for over 20 years, where he faithfully served as a greeter. He was employed by Hartsville Lumber & Barns and had formerly worked with Stallings Salvage. In his younger years, Robby enjoyed go-cart racing and was an avid follower of NASCAR, supporting drivers such as Chase Elliott, Dale Earnhardt, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He later developed a passion for golf, which he played regularly on weekends. An avid sports fan, he was a die-hard Carolina Gamecocks and also followed the Duke Blue Devils basketball team. Above all, Robby cherished his role as “Pa-pa” to his grandchildren, treasuring the time spent together, including golf cart rides to the Dollar General and sharing Jellybeans.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sheila Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kathy Smith; children Amber Smith (Jason) Freeman of McBee, South Carolina, Jennifer (Lee) Love of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Michael (Abby) Lowder of Ridgefield, North Carolina; grandchildren Kaleb Freeman, Kaden Freeman, Walker Love, and Stella Love; brother Jeff (Gale) Smith of Jefferson, South Carolina; sisters Cindy (Wilbur) Sullivan of Jefferson, South Carolina, and Peggy Johnson of Mount Croghan, South Carolina; brother-in-law Randy (Ali) Mabry of Beckley, West Virginia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Tommy-Lee Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church and at other times at the family’s home.
