Charles Anthony Gulledge, 63, entered into rest on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Hopewell Baptist Church by the Honorable Rep. Pastor Richie Yow, and life-long friends, Jeff Gardner, and Ernie Oliver with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service at the church.
Born in Chesterfield, SC he was the son of the late Charles Ray Gulledge and Juanita Brewington Gulledge. He was preceded in death by his first-born son, Charles Travis Gulledge.
Tony G, a 1978 graduate of Chesterfield High School, was a founding member and life-long leader of the elite force, a close knit brotherhood with an eternal bond that transcended time, distance, and death. Tony G was a proud member of the Chesterfield football team and was forever a Ram. His proudest accomplishment from his high school years was his reign as Best Physique of the Class of ’78, which he never hesitated to remind you of. He was proud to show off his “wash board abs,” even into retirement.
Tony G was an avid outdoorsman who hunted, fished, and gardened with the best of them. Some of his best days were spent sharing his wisdom and joy of the outdoors with his sons, nephews, and those he considered his own. He was a life-long fan of the Carolina Gamecocks and could always be found with his signature Gamecock hat a top his head, so much so that he couldn’t even bring himself to drink orange juice.
A friend to all, Tony was the life of any party. He told the best (and longest) stories in his own animated fashion and never left a crowd without a laugh. He enjoyed making his own BBQ with his signature sauce, homemade sausage, and a vast variety of homemade wines.
Above all else, he loved his family. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. You would always find him bragging about to anyone who would listen. To his children and some of their close friends, he will always be fondly remembered as Daddy Rabbit.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his only daughter, Hannah (Ernest) Gulledge, his sons, Eli (Summer) Gulledge and Ethan Gulledge. Grandchildren, Lily Gulledge, Mylah Joines, Maggie Ishmell, and Reid Gulledge. Two sisters, Terry (Eugene) Campbell and Jayne (Clyde) Watson; and uncle, Kenny Gulledge. Carol Lear and Teresa Gulledge, the mothers of his children, who loved and cared for him until the end of his life, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Tony also leaves behind an army of friends who he loved fiercely.
