Burris Hammonds

Chesterfield, SC

          Mr. Burris Hammonds, age 81, entered into rest on Monday, January 8, 2024 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be 4:00 PM Friday, January 12, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Brent Taylor. The family will greet friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

          Mr. Hammonds was born October 27, 1942 in Mt. Croghan, SC a son of the late John Burris “J.B.” and Virginia Mae Gulledge Hammonds. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and the owner and operator of West End Auto Sales for over 35 years. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors. A man who never met a stranger, Burris enjoyed helping others, spending time with his grandchildren, and on occasion aggravating his wife. He also enjoyed traveling and taking the time to see nature and God’s creation.

          In addition to his parents, Mr. Burris was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Lessie Mills Hammonds; infant son, Travis Jenkins; and brother, Gene Hammonds.

          Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Jenkins of the home; children, Scotty Jenkins of Chesterfield, SC, Natalie (Horton) Price of Jefferson, SC, Amy (Dustin) Hayes of Chesterfield, SC, and Timmy Jenkins of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Wesley Price, Dylan Price, Mason Hayes, Luke Hayes, Willow Hayes, Taylor Jenkins, and Gage Jenkins; great grandchild, Remington Jenkins; siblings, Robert (Katherine) Hammonds, Margie (Greg) Propst, James (Frances) King, Alvin (Amanda) Hammonds, Doris (Robert) Bobb, Sara Pendarvis (Woody), John “Bo” Hammonds, Carroll Hammonds, Sue (Chester) Moore, and Avis (Edwin) Cooper; sister-in-law, Irene Hammonds; and numerous nieces and nephews.
