Mr. Billy A. Lewis, age 84, entered into rest on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at his home. The celebration of life graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Hart officiating. The family will receive visitors at Mr. Billy’s home (1598 Ted Melton Road, Chesterfield), on Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24 and again on Sunday, August 2 before and after the service.

Billy was born to John Lewis and Belle Crowley Lewis, who instilled in him the values of hard work, humility, perseverance, and love of family that guided him throughout his life.

After many years of dedicated service, Billy retired from Carolina Packaging. Although he worked hard throughout his career, his greatest joy was found on the family farm. The land he loved was more than a place to live. It was home. Billy was raised on that very land, and one of the proudest accomplishments of his life was being able to purchase it himself. There, he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life.

Billy was happiest outdoors. He loved working in his gardens, tending the land, and caring for his chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, and his faithful dog, Molly. His farm was his sanctuary and the place where countless memories were made with family and friends.

Gifted with remarkable mechanical ability, Billy could seemingly build or repair anything. Alongside his brother, Jerry Lewis, and his brother-in-law, Buddy Teal, he helped build his first home with his own hands. Years later, he poured that same dedication into helping build the home where he spent the remainder of his life. To those who knew him, there never seemed to be anything he could not accomplish.

More than anything else, Billy loved his family. He was a quiet teacher whose example spoke louder than words. Through his work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help others, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis and Belle Crowley Lewis; his sisters, Kathryn Teal Fulton and Betty Joe Lewis Teal; brother, John Robert Lewis; his beloved sons, Ricky Dean Lewis, Billy Joe Lewis, and Billy Lewis Jr.; and his beloved granddaughter, Shannon Hargrove.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Rebecca Lewis Ghorra and her husband, Dr. Salim Ghorra, Brenda Lewis Newsom, and Sandra Lewis Sanchez; his devoted brother, Jerry Lewis, and sister-in-law, Cathie Lewis; his cherished grandchildren, Dalton Clark, (Madison)Kayla Lewis Blakeney (Dez) Adam Lewis, Justin Hargrove, Gerhard Ghorra, Lily Ghorra, Carlos Sanchez, and Anna Sanchez; his great-grandchildren; and other loving family members and dear friends.

Billy shared a one-of-a-kind bond with his grandson, Dalton Clark, who was truly the light of his life. From the time Dalton was a little boy, he spent countless days by his grandfather’s side on the family farm. Together they worked the land, cared for the animals, and built memories that will last forever. Billy was not just Dalton’s grandfather. He was his teacher, his role model, and one of his very best friends. In Billy’s final days, he asked Dalton to make him one promise, to care for the farm and the animals he loved so dearly. Without hesitation, Dalton gave his word. That promise brought Billy tremendous peace, knowing the land where he was raised and the life he loved would continue through the grandson who had shared it with him for so many years.

Billy’s life was measured not by material possessions, but by the lives he touched, the homes he built, the land he loved, and the family he cherished. His legacy lives on in every garden that blooms, every animal cared for with compassion, and every lesson he quietly taught through the example of his life.

If something was broken, Billy could fix it. If something needed building, he would find a way. If someone needed help, he was there. That is how he will be remembered.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, hospice caregivers, and everyone who treated Billy with compassion, dignity, and kindness during his final journey.
