Jefferson, SC - Mrs. Betty Jo Melton Knight, age 88, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Springhill Assisted Living of Pageland, surrounded by her loving family.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church, officiated by Brent Taylor, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service at the church.


Born on May 8, 1937, in the Angelus community, Mrs. Knight was the daughter of the late Joel Osgood and Velma Horton Melton. A graduate of McBee High School and the South Eastern School of Cosmetology in Charlotte, NC, she dedicated over 60 years to her career as a licensed cosmetologist, owning and operating Betty’s Beauty Shop.


A faithful member of Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Knight was known for her hobbies, which included cooking, sewing, gardening, and baking. She earned accolades for her baking, winning the best cake award at the Angelus Community Center for two consecutive years with her famous caramel and coconut cakes. Above all, Mrs. Knight took pride in helping to raise her children and grandchildren earning the cherished title of "Maw-Maw."


In addition to her parents, Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Melton Stokes, and brother, Jerry Osgood Melton.


She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Carl Knight; her children, Glenn (Julie) Knight of Surfside Beach, SC, James (Pat) Knight of Jefferson, SC, and Beth K. Carroll (Sloan Mimms) of Jefferson, SC; grandchildren, Karis (Brian) Hicks of Pageland, SC, Kayla Knight of Surfside Beach, SC, Megan (Will) Barrett, Will (Christy) Hunter both of Jefferson, SC, Melissa Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kandi (Kevin) Williams of Pageland, SC, Shawn (Courtney) Mills of Heath Springs, SC, Joel (Mandy) Carroll of Pageland, SC, Justin (Amanda) Carroll of Jefferson, SC, Jared (Brittany) Carroll of Kershaw, SC, and James (Tyler) Carroll of Jefferson, SC.


Also surviving are great grandchildren, Landon, Lawson, Hayden, Braxton, Xander, Aylana, Abby, Jasper, Cannon, Ryder, Kennon, Kalil, Kendal, Brewer, Corben, McKinley, Gracyn, Chaz, Christopher, Juliette, Briar, Paisley, Granger, Ashton, Houston, Raven, Austin, and Shawn; in addition to nieces and nephews.


The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and administration of Springhill Assisted Living of Pageland, Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield, and special caregiver and friend, Brenda McClain, for their exceptional care and support provided to Mrs. Knight and her family.
